Leaning Tower of Pisa

For Italy we made the Leaning Tower of Pisa out of toilet paper rolls and modelling clay. We learned that he leaning tower of Pisa took over 800 years to fnally be finished(constructed). Years later it began to lean a lot! Architects were afraid that it would totally fall over. Many men took ropes to help support it.  Every 20 years it leans over 1 inch. They finally were able to fix it by removing extra ground from the higher side. Enjoy!

Why We Like Being Connected !

Today we got a very interesting tweet from Ms. Bettess on twitter! She asked us to send her some ideas of why we like tweeting and being connected to others! She will need this information for a PD (professional development) that she is hosting! We feel like twitter heroes, since we're able to help her out! Check out our responses below! If you are interested in following us on Twitter, our handle is: @room14monsters

Investigating 3D shapes

Today we worked in groups to investigate the properties of 3D shapes. We learned all about faces, edges and vertices. We will apply our knowledge of 3D shapes to our science unit of structures and materials in the following weeks.

SMILEBOX MOMENTS

We used an app called SMILEBOX the other day. We talked about how it was important to always ask someone their permission before taking their picture. We were able to have some fun and create a few "smilebox" moments. Click the links below to enjoy!

The Sydney Opera House

Today we made replicas of the Sydney Opera House. The Opera House's sails can light up for special events. We made our replicas out of cardboard and paper. The real-life Opera House is made out of metal and stone. We learned that it is important for a structure to have a strong base or foundation! The original models were made out of steel pipes. We learned that it took over 150 hours just to design the plans (or blueprints) for the Opera House. We had a great time with this activity!

Our ipads have arrived!

Today we got to finally use the ipads! First, we had to learn about the ipad rules in the classroom. We have them posted, just in case we forget. The most important rule is to handle the ipads safely, carefully and respectfully. We also talked about how it is important to make sure that we stay on-task and "on-app" when working with ipads. We also know that it's important to leave the apps and settings to the teacher. We must remember to share and ensure that everyone can see!
Stay posted to see our first creations using "SMILEBOX!" ---coming soon ---
